Sam's Information

Birthday: Feb. 19, 2005
Breed: Akbash Dog
Date of Surgery: June 9, 2010
Product: BFX® Total Hip
Surgeons: Dr. Rick Scherr of Big Sky Animal Hospital in Great Falls, Mont. and Dr. Dan Burchill of Casselton Veterinary Service in Casselton, N.D.
Referring Veterinarian: Dr. Lori Gossard of All Pets Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.

On March 9, 2007, Sam's left forelimb was amputated due to a gunshot wound. Shortly thereafter he was adopted by his current owner. She soon began to notice that Sam was unwilling to ambulate due to degenerative joint disease from hip dysplasia. Total hip replacement was a high-risk surgery due to the previous front leg amputation, but thanks to following aftercare instructions, Sam is now playing and is pain-free.
